The Neal Taylor Nature Center was established as a non-profit in 1988 by Neal Taylor to encourage public understanding, enjoyment, and protection of Cachuma Lake, the Upper Santa Ynez River, and the San Rafael Mountain Range Watershed.

The goal of the Nature Center is to create an atmosphere of hands-on discovery that fosters understanding and appreciation of the rich natural environment and cultural history of the Cachuma Lake area.

The Nature Center is located within the Cachuma Lake Recreation Area in a picturesque old ranch house. Developed and operated by volunteers, it offers exhibits on the local environment, emphasizing hands-on interaction that appeals to children.

The Nature Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation relying on volunteer, donor, and grant support.
