John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden

Oyster Bay Road and Dogwood Lane
516-676-4486

The Humes Garden is a fine example of a Japanese stroll garden in the Northeast United States, seamlessly integrating ageless Japanese landscape techniques with the woodland terrain of Long Island’s North Shore. The Garden Conservancy was instrumental in saving the garden from closing in 1993 and managed the garden on behalf of the Humes Japanese Stroll Garden Foundation for twenty years.

Mission:

The mission of the John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden is to preserve and enhance the garden and its architectural elements with sensitivity to both the garden’s natural woodland setting and the Japanese aesthetic principles that guide its design.
