Fossil and Prairie Center

Floyd County is located in North-east Iowa and is home to the Fossil & Prairie Park Preserve and Center.

We currently manage 25 individual parks, preserves, natural areas and river accesses that encompass some 1,616 acres. The Winnebago, Shell Rock and Cedar Rivers cascade from across Floyd County and provide numerous water recreation opportunities.

Built on a brick and tile company’s abandoned clay pit, this Iowa park—just three hours from Macalester— is one of the few geological preserves in the United States that allows fossils to be collected for private use.
