About Us:
Argos Farm was purchased by George & Aphrodite Mackres in 1985 as a hobby farm. It was George's escape from his busy life as an entrepreneur. Some fruit trees, Christmas trees, and a small flock of sheep dotted the landscape and provided a small farm income to sustain the operation. In 2003, the Mackres' third daughter, Angela Martin, along with her husband Spyro, decided to transition from their lives in Monmouth County, where Spyro commuted to Wall Street and Angela was an Elementary School Teacher. The events of 9/11 and Spyro's close proximity to Ground Zero were a powerful catalyst in this decision.
By December 2005, the 20,000 sq ft Horse Barn was complete and for eight years Argos Farm was providing Equestrian Services including Boarding, Lessons, Trail Rides, Summer Camp, and Pony Parties. Simultaneously they began a small Fall Festival that included Pumpkin Picking, Hay Rides, and Pony Rides. Shortly after, they identified their excitement for this time of year, and refocused their efforts into growing a family experience where people could create a tradition and return year after year to see what new and exciting attractions they continue to add.
Finally in 2014, they converted part of their barn into a Seasonal Cafe, Farm Market, and Bakery so they could accommodate the demands of their returning customers with permanent facilities. The conversion has opened a whole new world of opportunities including incorporating their naturally grown vegetables and meats for sale and special events such as farm to table dining and cooking classes. Their children, Dean and Effie are very actively involved in every aspect of their operation and their decision to move back to the land has provided them a lifestyle that they didn't know was possible at the Jersey Shore in the 21st century.
